Soft, chalky limestone collected in 1959 from the upper part of the continental slope 140 miles west of Brittany (France), in the Atlantic Ocean, yielded more than 20 species of coccoliths. Two of these have the spheres preserved intact. They are named and described as the new species Coccolithus sarsiae and C. celticus. The age is probably late Tertiary.
