On the southern margin of the Criffell-Dalbeattie granodiorite complex, south of Dumfries on the southwest coast of Scotland, several outcrops of rocks occur which are thought to be metasomatic replacements of graywacke and hornfels by Na- and K-bearing solutions. The solutions preceded the granodiorite magma. Two types of rocks can be distinguished--quartz diorite, and others with a porphyroblastic texture here termed marginal porphyrites. Field relations, petrography, and petrogenesis are discussed.
