An almost complete section of the "Bagshot Series" beds (Eocene) is exposed at St. Ann's Hill, in Surrey, south of London, England. Pebble beds have been used, in the absence of fossils, as a means of subdividing the beds. Recent heavy mineral analyses using percentages of fresh and abraded grains of tourmaline, rutile, and zircon substantiate the subdivisions.
