At two localities along the contact of the Insch mass of olivine norite with the Macduff slates, near Scotstown, northeast Scotland, basic hornfelses have been developed. Their formation is ascribed to the transfer of lime, ferrous iron, magnesium, and titanium from the gabbro magma to the sedimentary rocks. The development is an excellent example of a basic front.
