The limestone knolls are defined as rigid biohermal structures rather than differentially compacted lime-banks. The term knoll-reef is considered appropriate for the original structures and reef-knoll for their present topography. Associated non-reef shales are interpreted as contemporaneously deposited beds, representing a non-sequence.
