Every four years since 1977 there has been an international conference on fluvial sedimentology, and from each a collection of papers has been produced in a volume, this being the seventh in that series. The meeting itself took place in August 2001, and the process of publishing the volume seems to have been a little longer than most of the previous collections in the series, and it was published just a few months before the eighth international fluvial meeting in the summer of 2005. However, it is a substantial collection, with 29 papers covering a wide range of topics.
