In early mapping in the Gairloch area of northwestern Scotland, an inlier of dioritic rocks was grouped with the rocks of the Lewisian complex. Recent investigation of the inlier shows that the rock types and structure are not represented in the Lewisian rocks. The rocks are granulites, diorites, microdiorites, and pegmatites, exhibiting pre-Laxfordian relations. These rocks also show involvement in the Laxfordian movements which affected the characteristic metasediments and metabasites of the Lewisian rocks. Four chemical analyses and norms are given. The rocks, their structure, and the nature of their outcrop furnish new information useful in the delineation of pre-Laxfordian history.
